Why did God intelligently design us to have finger nails and toe nails?

It makes us kind of resemble....well, monkeys. Why did God intelligently design us to have finger nails and toe nails?
So his holy inquisitors would have something to pull out to convince heathens to ';repent';.Why did God intelligently design us to have finger nails and toe nails?
God made us in His own image %26amp; likeness. He has His reasons %26amp; we have many uses for our nails. When papers are stuck together, we use our nails to separate them. Also, if there's tape on something it isn't supposed to be on, we use our nails to help us remove the tape. He was very considerate in making us with nails. Yes, monkeys have nails, but that doesn't mean I'm considered a monkey. Same way we draw a picture in the way we want it to look, He made us how He wanted to make us. (: %26amp; Im very thankful for that.
Well, we use our fingernails to peel the fruit we eat (when we were created, we ate lots of fruit, making that an intelligent idea), and toenails and fingernails both protect the very sensitive areas on top of our fingers and toes, which to me, seems intelligent. We can also use our nails to dig into things, tear things apart, etc.
There is no such thing as intelligent design. The way we are is as a result of millions and millions of years of gradual evolution, the end result of which looks like, retrospectively, as though it had been designed. But really there is no intelligent design.
If it doesn't have a tail it's not a monkey, even if it has a monkey kind of shape.

If it doesn't have a tail it's not a monkey...

If it doesn't have a tail it's not a monkey it's an ape!

- ';Silly Songs by Larry'; Veggie Tales
Out of all of the parts of the body, you picked finger nails and toe nails to connect us to monkeys?

That's interesting. Perhaps an answer would be for protection of sensitive skin. I don't know.
I want to know why he gave us an appendix, or the so called wisdom teeth we need to remove to avoid dental complications. And why was our eye intelligently designed with a blind spot while the octopus has a sensibly ';manufactured'; eye?
Forget about the finger nail thing, what about the fact that not all of our (wisdom) teeth fit into our mouths and that appendixes are useless unless you count exploding and causing death.
Fingernails do have a function--they stiffen and strengthen the ends of the digits.

Darn near everything about humans resembles the great apes.
Blessed be the Baby Jesus!!!

Most animals have toenails. The horse's hoof is just one big toenail. Cat's claws are toenails.

We just aren't all that special.

.
I'm happy to have fingernails. It makes opening soda cans and other tabbed lids much easier.
Ok...A lot of animals have toenails and stuff and we need to scratch stuff with the nails.
all the better to scratch out the eyes of the infidels.
eww..... feet %26amp; toes are ugly enough. Without toe nails they would be really gross! I hate feet! : )
could you imagine life without them, it seems a silly question, but i hope this helps you find an answer
it helps for protection and to pry up my sink dingie that goes down and then the water is stopped up.
So people would not confuse a penis with a finger. lol
Haha I know, right.

It's crazy isn't it?
and is that your thought on why we have a butt hole too??
So we could open bananas, I mean what other argument is there?
It's easier to pick our nose with fingernails.
cause thats what we evolved from.
What else am I gonna chew on all day?

Does anyone have any homeopathic remedies for yellow and cracked toe nails?

What should i do? i accidentally trimmed one of my dogs nails too short?

i accidently trimmed one of her nails into the bloodline. i think i heard neosporen would help but im not sure. any advice? What should i do? i accidentally trimmed one of my dogs nails too short?
Stick the paw in a bowl of flour or corn starch. No harm no foul.

additional: you can use septic powder however it leaves terrible stains on floors, carpets, furniture. What should i do? i accidentally trimmed one of my dogs nails too short?
Yes, put antibacterial ointment on it. In the future, only cut a littel at time. My dog's vet said when you cut a bit of the nail off the skin inside will retract a bit but it takes a few days. So if they are really long only do a littel every few days until they are short enough.
Buy some styptic powder. When you cut their quick take a paper towel and hold it on the nail until the bleeding stops long enough for you to pack their nail with the powder. you may have to repeat depending on how bad they are bleeding. Cornstarch also works.
You've asked this question twice. Of course Neosporin will not stop the bleeding. You need some blood stop that you can get at your local pet store, or you can use a styptic pencil. Next time, use a Dremel.
My vet told me a mixture of flour and water, and corn starch. Mix it up to make a paste, and use it to stop the bleeding. Once the bleeding has stopped, you could use neosporin on the wound.
well i think she would lick the neosporin off. i would let it heal naturally and just keep it clean so there wont be infection
they sell quick stop at the pet shops for this. but in an emergency case. make a paste of flour, corn starch and water.
call the vet, staph or other infections can occur poisoning the animal's blood.
Next time pay attention.

The interior roof is like a cloth . ANY ides would be helpful thanksHELP new relationship, was in his car painting my nails and accidently got nail polish on the roof of this car
nail polish remover and a vaccum cleaner. run the vaccum while puting the remover on to keep it from spreading.HELP new relationship, was in his car painting my nails and accidently got nail polish on the roof of this car
Use acetone and a couple of clean white towel-type rags. Soak the nail polish with acetone and dab it off with the towel. Don't wipe or it will spread. Use a clean spot on the towel each time you dab. You can also try lots of cotton balls.

Poll: Guys do you like it when women have their toe nails painted, makeup on, jewelery on, and fancy clothes?

Would you prefer a woman that didn't wear these things and was very independent? Which woman would you prefer? And what is your opioin about a women that was dressed up Example do you think she's high maintance or not? And what is your opinon of the women that wasn't dressed up Example do you think she's to independent?Poll: Guys do you like it when women have their toe nails painted, makeup on, jewelery on, and fancy clothes?
I like girls without all that fancy stuff...because it shows that they are more into other things in life rather than just focusing on making themselves look good. Id think shes not high maintenance, and independency is great for women...

http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;鈥?/a>Poll: Guys do you like it when women have their toe nails painted, makeup on, jewelery on, and fancy clothes?
    I like independant girls

i dont like girls who wear lots of makeup when first impressions are concered, i think a girl w/ lots of makeup is shallow (but iv been wrong before) so i prefer no makeup at all

I think jewlery is great as long as she doesnt over do it, like a simple necklace with a bracelt and stud earring (or maybe silver hoops or somthing). although no jewlery is also good.

depends how you define fancy dress, if you mean designer cloths, then i totally stay away from her, if you mean dressing up (as opposed to casual) i have no prefernce although usually girls who dress well tend to be independant, go getters (and i like that)
Depends on the time and place. If I haven't met her, then yeah, I'd think she was high maintenance. But if I liked her for a while, and we had begun flirting, then I would think that she cared about me.

If I haven't met her and she was done up like that, I'd think she was single/low maintenance. But if I liked her for a while and she still dressed up like that, I'd be a little put off.
ok, firstly ALL girls are high-maintenance, no matter what they like to think of themselves...

secondly, tho, i really don't care.

any girl can dress up if she wants to. it's more about the personality.

that said, you've gotta take care of yourself. is it really that hard to put just a little effort into your appearance? do you really not have 5 minutes to put on a little make-up? lol

having a girl with expensive tastes is a lot more stressful, tho.
it depends to much jewelery makes a girl seem fake. fancy clothes...depends.. most guys go crazy for a tank top and short shorts. id rather go for an independant girl. who has her own style. because then she has her own personality.
I'm a girl but I can answer that I usually wear jeans and a t-sh谋rt no guy ever looks at me but yesterday I wore a dress and some makeup painted my toe nails and a guy asked me my messinger adress .... I dont know maybe Its just the guys around me ..
hell no i hate women that are high maintenance that dress like a hoe and with a lot of make up on there face

It means that you have enough calcium in your body but that doesn't mean you should stop eating and drinking things that are high in calcuim.

How often are you supposed to get your puppies nails trimmed??

About every 4 weeks should be fine. You can do it more often if you want.

If you let them go too long, the quicks (vein) start to grow and then you won't be able to cut them short. If you trim them once a week though, the quicks will recede and you will be able to get the nails quite short.

If you cut them at home and you hit the quick, just pack it with some flour, cornstarch or bisquick. It's not so much what you use, as long as you pack it.

It's a good idea to get your puppy used to having it's nails trimmed now so it gets used to it and doesn't turn into a difficult dog for its nail trims. Get him used to having his feet handled so he doesn't turn into a biter for the trims.

The same with grooming. Take your dog in for just a bath when he's 4 months and had all of his shots. It will get the dog used to the grooming process and then you won't have a hard to groom dog, resulting in a more expensive groom and a dog more likely to get cut because of it's behavior. I can't tell you how difficult it is to get a nice haircut on a dog that the owners bring in for it's first groom at a year old. They freak out from the bath to the dryers to the clippers.

If you have a dog that doesn't need a haircut, the grooming can cut down on your shedding.

Good luck with your puppy! How often are you supposed to get your puppies nails trimmed??
Not sure about puppies, but if a dog walks across the floor and you can hear their nails, they're too long. If their nails get to long it can throw off their gait.

If your dog's nails haven't been cut in awhile you need to cut them at least once a week until you push the quick back.

I however cheat a little, I walk and play with my dog on concrete, it helps keep her nails ';filed';.How often are you supposed to get your puppies nails trimmed??
I clip my pugs nails about every 2 weeks to once a month depending
normally you want to do it about once every month, but if you notice that your dogs nails are starting to click on the floor, you should probably cut them around that time.
Depends on the dog,one of mine runs alot and wears her down. She has her nails cut every 6-7 weeks.Another needs it every 4 weeks.
I clip my 9 month old labs nails weekly. It's really more of a trim. I only take off a little each week and I only trim those they I think need it.

The weekly trims are more for my dog becoming accustomed to the clippings. When she gets older and bigger, I don't want to have to take her to the groomer or vet every time she needs a nail trim. I want to be able to do it on my own without needing a second hand. For this to be possible, I have to get her used to it now while she's still young (and little).

But it's also for comfort and convenience. I don't have to worry about being scratched by sharp nails or her causing damage to her body, face, or eyes when she scratches.

Also, don't forget about the dew claw (if your dog has one).
at least once a month maybe more.
I do my dog's nails every 3 to 4 weeks. It will depend on how active the dog is, because running and walking on hard or rough surfaces, like pavement, will wear the nails down. The best thing to do is look at the nails every so often, and trim them if they seem overly long. Also, listen as the dog walks on pavement or non-carpeted floors. If the nails are clicking, it's time for a trim.
u shud ask a vet but i think it's every 2 months and if ur having trouble with there teeth then buy them bones for there teeth and not chiken bones they choke
When they look like they could be trimmed.
You only want to cut them whenever they are long enough to make that clacking noise when they walk on pavement. Also be very careful when you cut them and make sure to not clip their quick (vein that runs through their nails) because this is very painful for them.
depends on the pup. once the nails have started to curl downwards and are touching the floor, its time.

I have nice nails, but the underside is discolored due to our hard water?

Short of buying an expensive water softener (we have a sink filter), any suggestions on how to remove these stains? I've tried scrubbing with a nail brush, soaking in soapy water, peroxide and other stuff....is there something I can buy at the drug store?I have nice nails, but the underside is discolored due to our hard water?
Such discoloration of nails can happen for many different reasons that may require different treatment modalities.

You should see a dermatologist for that because nail is an appendage of skin and they are specialized to treat that.

  • How Can I Stop Biting The Skin Around My Nails?

i stopped biting my actual nails when i was around 7 or 8 years old, but when i got a little older, i got into the terrible of habit of biting the skin AROUND my nails, and now my fingers look horrible and disgusting, a lot of times i bite the skin to the point where it bleeds, and my fingers look really bad, especially my thumbs. it's a really bad nervous habit that i have (i equate it with smoking), and i wanna stop but i dont know how, since most of the time i do it unconsciously. how can i stop doing this to myself? How Can I Stop Biting The Skin Around My Nails?
It is a difficult thing to break a habit that we don't wish to keep around. I too bite my nails, and occasionaly the skin, but its never been a problem. I eventually just stopped doing it as much, but I also try to keep my nails trimmed- I don't really like long nails to begin with, and when I do have them, they sometimes become uneven, which temps me to bite- but again, its never really bothered me.

The first advice I can give, is keep your nails trimmed and clean, so that you won't be tempted to bite the nail part. Keep a set of clippers and a file around, so that if you break a nail, you can repair it quickly. Then, to prevent biting the skin, first off, keep your hands clean, and get them to heal nicely, by using some good hand cream that will promote healthy skin. To try to ward off biting, put some strong scented lotion or perfume on your hands, especially finger tips, that way when you go to bite, you may get an unpleasant taste.

Another thing I can suggest is chewing gum or sucking on a hard candy, which will give your mouth something to do. Just don't do it to the point of putting healthy teeth and gums at risk :P Or, if you really want to break the habit, even though it may look funny, put a bandaid on every finger tip, and leave it. That way, you won't bite, and hopefully it will break the habit.

Good luck! How Can I Stop Biting The Skin Around My Nails?
Since it's as extreme as it is, I'd reccommend you wear oven mits for the next three weeks, and as soon as you stop, get a surgeon and have an extreme manicure.
use lemon juice or lime juice. coating your fingers in it will probably stop you from biting your skin. make sure you have no cuts or bruises, however. citrus-like fruits sting.
i do the same thing!!! and everytime i bite it there is more stuff i can bite! its horrible! i cant stop!

sorry this is not an answer to your question hah

Is running your nails down a blackboard more enjoyable to listen to than opera?
    Always!
    Hi!

No, but infinately more enjoyable than watching live ballet!!!!

    ZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzz!!!

    NEVER, EVER AGAIN!!!

    Ha, ha, ha!!

But then again it's not a laughing matter.

Oh, what the heck..... ha, ha, ha!!
It all depends on the composer.
I like some operas! my favorits are Il Barbero di Siviglia, Rigoletto, y Turandot, I also like some arias, my favorit is Nessun dorma, from Turandot!!!, some arias from the magic flute,Carmen, etc some march from Aida, etc...I'd kill someone to see AIDA... yes I like opera!! and if we are going to compare it with ballet, then i prefer 89899236598times to see classical ballet!!! I just LOVE it I mean, I DO LOVE it! my favs are Swan lake, Giselle, The nutcracker, Romeo%26amp;Juliet, etc..

And with all respect, people who say that they do not like it maybe is because they are not used to see it, I see that sometimes people go 4 the first time to see it and they dont even realize they are seating on a bad spot or they don't even read the program, I mean is a kind of bad behavior..If you want to open ur mind, you should try to learn.. for me, it's a kind of ignorance, because good things perdures with the time as classical art does,

and it is a shame that not so many people get involved with art or does not have feelings or passion for it, I think if that people will get close to art, mankind would be much better..this kind of art is pure passion! you can see in the artist's face, in the live sound of the orchestra!! (well, if you get to see really good artists, cause some of them are pretty amateurs with a loong way to go)
    Opera is a lot better
It's personal preference what you listen to, some opera music is actually very good - it's really up to yourself what you like.
Thank God not all the brits are uncultured.

    My friend,

In order to enjoy opera you must have at least the minimal kind of culture.

You probably enjoy the sound of your nails down a blackboard because you may have got used to use your nails too much. Good on you, I don't blaim you. Everybody gets whatever he/she deserves.

But consider that, operas have been written and performed for 300-400 years and the enjoyment they provide to the people is still endless.

It is a composite of ARTS. Theatre, Literature, Music, Singing, Acting, Costumes, Scenes, and many other. I understand that you may be not in possition (mentally, educationally, culturally) to appreciate or comprehent all these.

Contemporary composers still let their signs in this kind of ART.

Thank God, again for the people who like this kind of ART and mainly for the brits that there is a G.Lloyd Wember with many of his creations to continue this form of art.

I should never dare to make such a comparison like this you made. (Blackboard than Opera). That's a blasphemy. God forgive you.

I understand also that you may had very rough childhood without having anyone around to tell you that arts help people to distand their position from the animals but I have to accept it.

    Again, God Bless you.

    Good luck to your life.:)
Not if you run your nails down the blackboard for the whole length of the opera... A whole opera may be dull, but what about individual songs, like the Torreodor song?
Definitely, i cannot stand Opera. Can never even understand what they are saying, horrible. Some like it, i don't:)
I watched Wagner's 4th something or other on Sky art channel the other night. My 1st exposure to ';The ride of the Valkerys(?)'; done with women on stage and a live band - sorry - symphony orchestra - etc.

    It was absolutely fantastic.
While I have to admit to being guilty of doing the former frequently when younger (it never bothered me), I LOVE opera.

Opera is a strange art form. While many opera lovers put on airs and make believe it's the art of the rich and powerful, it was actually, and remains, an art form that reaches across class, language and educational boundaries. It has always been a way for common people to feel transported to a more magical place, time and/or situation.

But, it's a form that you either love completely or hate utterly. Some find it boring, some find it annoying, some are entranced and moved emotionally, some want to, well, run their nails down a chalkboard. At the very least, it usually elicits SOME emotional response! :-)

If you don't like it, don't watch it.

However, one should never judge anything by one performance, and Opera should be experienced (at least the first time) in person, in a beautiful theatre, with a live orchestra and live performers...it's the only way to truly understand the magical trances that can be created.

Me, I'm lucky to live in Prague, where we have three theatres providing some of the worlds' best all year long!
Much of muchness in most cases
yes it is. i am only 14 and i went to an opera and enjoyed it a lot

What would be the best way to remove acrylic nails?

Don't listen to anyone who tells you to pry them off. That is not the correct way to remove acrylic nails. That WILL cause damage to your natural nails, and it will cause you unnecessart pain as well. And don't let a tech do that to you either. There is no proper way of forcing them off. The one and only way to safely remove acrylic nails is to soak them off in pure acetone. It usually takes about 40 minutes or so, so be patient. After they have soaked for that amount of time, you can use an orange stick, or a metal cuticle pusher and GENTLY scrape the softened acrylic off. You could also use a paper towel to remove it. If the acrylic doesn't all come off the first try, simply soak for another 5-10 minutes, and try again. If you had a UV gel topcoat applied, then you will need to remove this with a nail file prior to soaking them because the acetone will not penetrate the UV gel coating. If you have a UV gel topcoat, it is usually applied in a thin layer, so not much filing will be required to remove that from your nails. One final thing: If you have filed off any UV gel topcoat, and have soaked your nails for at least 40 minutes in pure acetone and you find that the acrylic is just not softening much at all, or is rubbery and won't budge, then you most likely have MMA nails. This is a hazardous substance which is very cheap to buy, and is often used in the discount salons. It normally takes about 3 or more hours for MMA to soften enough to remove it, and even then it is very difficult to remove. If you find that is what you have, then I would suggest having a professional remove them for you. But do not go back to the salon which applied that stuff on you because they will just tear them off your nails. You do not want that. These people in the discount salons are not professionals, they are usually quite unskilled, and often times unlicensed to do nails. Basically, if you paid $25 or less toget a full set, then you went to a discount salon. Avoid them at all costs. Instead, find a reputable salon to go and have them removed. Like I said, it will take over 3 hours to have them removed, and it will cost you more because of that fact. But, if you had any MMA applied to your nails, you want to get that garbage off as soon as possible. That stuff has ruined more nails than you can imagine - sometimes it cause permanent nail loss and can cause severe allergic reactions in many people. It's not something that you want to have on your nails.

I hope this helps! What would be the best way to remove acrylic nails?
Be super super careful. If you pull them off when they are too tightly bonded you will damage the nail bed and could even pull your natural nails off with them. I have done this before and it is incredibly painful.

If you are able, the best way is to go to a salon. It usually costs about 5 dollars and they are trained in removing them.

If you cant go to a salon, then take a press on nail (the thinner the better) and work it into the corner that is lifting. Gently move it under the acrylic nail until it lifts completely. If this doesn't work then you have two other options. Cut the acrylic nail to the length of your natural nail then take a new nail file and file the acrylic until it is gone. this is messy so you should do it somewhere the dust wont be a problem. It is the least damaging way and if you desire you can leave a thin layer of acrylic to keep your natural nail slightly strengthened. If you absolutely don't want to do these ways then you could soak your nails in pure acetone, but its bad for the skin, takes a long time and will make you smell of acetone for a while. Good luck! What would be the best way to remove acrylic nails?
i use acrylic nails quite a lot, when i get fed up with them, after about 5 weeks, i put nail vanish in a small tub ,i stick my fingers in them for around 5 minutes and gently peel them of.you might have to keep on doing it a few times, but they will work loose, don't yank them of. good luck.xxx

soak them in acetone and like every 5 minutes wipe your nails with a papertowel or rag. the acrylic will slowly wipe off and the plastic nails underneath will pop off.
soak them in nail polish remover, that is what they do at the salon lol

or you can try to popo them of with a metro card or a credit card good luck =]
You can buy the soak off liquid from Boots or Superdrug. It's Sally Hansen or Elegant Touch, I can't remember which but it is for taking off salon nails. I have used it myself.
I once removed a set by using a nail polish remover containing acetone. The acetone dissolves the glue, apparently.Worth a try.
    Let your nails grow out.

But if you're in a hurry, you can run them under hot water, and soap.

Anyone who paints nails with only base coat?

Can I paint my fingernails with only the base coat and no other coats? I thought they look clean this way.Anyone who paints nails with only base coat?
yeah, a base coat alone is perfectly fine.

a top coat sometimes helps but it's not necessary without any other coats on there.. and without a top coat, i think they look a little more natural (not too glossy).

i'm a manicurist.Anyone who paints nails with only base coat?
using a top coat instead of a bottom coat will last longer, just because of the chemistry of each. But it won't affect your nails at all if you choice a top coat or a base coat as long as your not putting color on.
Sure, why not! It'll last longer with a top coat though
yeah you can just do that, it'll look clean and shiny
i only use the color.. i dont use a clear coat or anything.. it just helps to keep the color from chiping off a lil longer is all....

When you have polish on for so long it takes the oxygen from your nail turning it yellow. Keep polish off for a while and they will turn white again.
Use lemon juice on them, soak your nails in it for a whilst it should pollish right off
    wait it out

    get a manicure

    OR

    use lemon juice
use a clear coat first, next time. they might have to grow out.

  • Does nail polish really damage your nails?

Apart from manicures %26amp; etc. Like if you put it on to often does it damage your nail?Does nail polish really damage your nails?
Yea. The chemicals in nailpolish are really harsh. They stain them and make them more brittle.Does nail polish really damage your nails?
Not that I know of. My nails don't go yellow or anything because I wear a base coat so that doesn't happen. Even though nails do need to ';breathe';, this isn't what causes the staining. The staining is caused by the tint of the nail polish, no matter the color of the nail polish it will usually end up yellow. Once I did my nails red without a base coat and they looked pinkish once i removed the nail polish.

I think the chemicals might be harmful for, not only the nails, but health in general because I believe the nails try to ';absorb'; the nail polish and it's full of chemicals so I don't know.

However, I've been doing my nails nonstop for two years and nothing has gone wrong yet.
I'm not sure but it stains them yellow. I used to almost permanently have nail polish on my toenails and then HAD to because they were all yellow. I finally decided to grow them out, FINALLY nearly grown out after like...6, 7 months maybe. Not sure exactly, but A LONG TIME. Putting a clear base coat on first can help (ill do that from now on) but you still need to go nailpolish-free often as even with clear nailpolish, you nails aren't being allowed to breath and this causes them to stain yellow
It does tend to make nails a little yellow, but on the other hand I find that nail polish strengthens mine. I wear nail polish all the time, and if there has been an occasion or two where I took it off and didn't add new nail polish, my nails broke and peeled.

But yeah, nail polish isn't exactly the healthiest thing for your nails, but I don't think it causes any serious damage.
My Friend used to paint her nails all the time. I saw her nails without polish once and they were in a really bad way. They looked a kind of yellow/brown colour. She has stopped painting them now and after using a hand/nail cream for a few months they now look fine. Hope this helps.
Not if you use a good basecoat. Stained nails can be reversed using ';bubble white'; from Sally beauty (or another similar product.)

Acrylic nails, however, will seriously damage your natural nails!
No, it doesn't damage your nails but if you wear nail polish too often it can turn your nails yellow (which you can get out by soaking your nails in lemon juice)
you know i think it does like my fingers always look really bad after i get my nails done and i dont think my pointer finger ever recovered from it
its good to let your nails breath every once in a while, but nail polish doesnt damage your nails

How much does it cost to trim a cockatiel's nails?

approximately how much does it cost to trim a cockatiel's nails? How much does it cost to trim a cockatiel's nails?
its easier if you do it yourself, i do my sun conure's nails all the time, since you're '; new '; at it, gently wrap your bird in a towel, if your bird has ' clear ' nails , its easier to cut its nails, because you can see the blood vessel in the nail, if your bird had dark nails, just bearly cut the tips off, Don't cut into the '; blood '; vessel. How much does it cost to trim a cockatiel's nails?
um i have a cockatiel and my mom is a vet and so she trims his nails but for oter birds she charges about 14.95

or you can do it yourself with a nail trimmer

if you don't cut the too short

if you trim them yourself then only do the tips
you can do it yourself just use your nail clippers but be careful not to cut too far or they could start bleeding
The pet store I go to does it for free. It's a mom and pop operation. I doubt the chain stores do it. Call around.
Different place different prices. You can learn to do it yourself.
I take my bird to a vet. who is trained for birds and it usually costs between $15.00 and $20.00 for all of the nails depends on how long I wait to get them done !!!
I use a Dremel to do my cockatoo's nails, as the rough perch doesn't help one bit. I'd be very cautious with cockatiels, as they have been known to die from fear. My vet won't even touch them!
you should call a pet grooming place near you

    good luck
If you get it a concrete perch, you shouldn't have to do it at all. They will use the perch to keep them trim. Do you see how they wipe their beaks on the perch and clench it with their feet. That's what they're doing.

Make sure the perch is big enough so the toes do not go all the way around.

I have concrete perches with a smooth side on top so the feet don't get irritated. You should be able to get these at bird shows or on line, if no place else.

Does it hurt to have a manicurist take off ayrlic nails?

I am sick of having acrylic nails, and have already let them grow out and a couple of them have fallen off, but it looks kind of strange now becuase only some of them have come off. Should I just wait to have them all fall off by themself, or have the manicurist take them off? ( I am not good with pain whatsoever)Does it hurt to have a manicurist take off ayrlic nails?
Soak them in acetone.Does it hurt to have a manicurist take off ayrlic nails?
well i would see how long they may take to fall of but on the other hand as long as you go to a good manicurist that knows what they are doing and you let them know up front you cant take pain verry well they will be alot more carfull but it shouldent hurt they should have a liqiud that can disolve them and make them easer to get off. good luck and hood it helped.
well, it doesnt hurt. u can remove them urself too. i did it before.

    (1) wet d cotton wool with nail polish remover

    (2) put it on ur nails

    (3) let it absorb d nail polish remover

    it'll came off then.
i would say definitely not get them taken off by a manicurist if you dont like pain because it hurts....try to take them off yourself...so you know your own pain, like soak your nails in acetone and then try to pull them off or cut them down
they soak them off with acatone..........no pain
yes.... unless you trust them to do it slowly. Do it yourself. soak them in acitone nail remover and take them off carefully. Then you will need to give major tlc to your nails.
If the manicurist soaks them off with pure acetone it will not hurt. You can also save yourself the money by doing it yourself. Go to the hardware store and buy pure acetone. Place it in a bowl that you will not use again. Soak the fingers with nails still on it while watching TV. If they have been on for a long time and growing out they shouldn't take long to come off. Than use a fine grit buffer block to smooth your natural nail. Polish with OPI natural nail strengthener and keep the edges of your nails filed smooth so not to snag and tear because they will be weak.
It feels a little strange, but not painful.
you can do it yourself if you want. Just go buy some acetone based nail polish remover and let your nails set in it. It takes awhile, but if you keep touching them while they are soaking, they'll come off pretty fast. And it doesn't hurt. I have never had them take off my nails.

What is it about nails on a chalkboard that make just about everyone cringe? Any scientific reason?

The frequency of the sound stimulates the nervous system causing an involuntary muscular reaction at the base of the neck. This has the effect of causing you to shudder; making your spine tingle; putting your teeth on edge, or a combination of all three. What is it about nails on a chalkboard that make just about everyone cringe? Any scientific reason?
Good question. i am adding this to my watch list. What is it about nails on a chalkboard that make just about everyone cringe? Any scientific reason?
The sound is definitely unpleasant- screechy like a bird of prey or a trapped animal. It could be a natural instinct for humans to flinch when they hear these noises.

Another reason could be empathy with the scratcher. The act of scratching a slate chalkboard is rough on the fingernails, and often causes irritation of the nerves. Anyone who has ever raked his hands across a blackboard can easily identify with this painful sensation.
    It is just the sound
It's just the sound. High pitched, screeching sound.
    NO CLUE
I agree with mbunston the high frequency and high pitched screech is more noticeable to people the age of 12-20.
My scientific view. The contact between chalk and the chalkboard produces a vibration the very same efect that you experiment when you suddenly step on the breaks of your car and the wheels over the pavement produce that particular high sound. It is vibration of one of the tow elements that produces sound and the one you quote particularly high has to have an answer in the length of the part of the chalk from the fingers till it reaches the chalkboard and the angle it is performing with that surface, also the kind of surface and the material of the chalk. My humble view, at least that is waht i am planing to tell my son in case he inquiries me. Greetings

Can I get my nails filled in the first trimester?

I am about 6 weeks pregnant, is it ok for me to get my nails filled and get a pedicure? Just wondering if the fumes are bad for the baby..Can I get my nails filled in the first trimester?
It really depends on if you have a normal pregnancy or a difficult one.

I am 13 weeks and it took me 2 yrs to get pregnant and I have been very cautious about what I do and don't.

But saying that - I asked at 6 weeks and the Dr said as long as the place is well ventilated and the equipment is sterile it should be ok because we are only there 1-2 hours. IF you worked there then that would be a problem because you would be breathing it in all day.

So go get your nails done! I am going tomorrow. :)Can I get my nails filled in the first trimester?
My OB said no problem. I got my nails and toes done throughout my 1st pregnancy. You can always make a quick phone call to your doctors office just to get their opinion.
the fumes are bad for the baby yes
The fumes arent good, but if you wanted to, you could probably wear a mask over your face. The first trimester is where the fetus is being developed. After that, it is just growing. I would put off getting my nails done for awhile, just in case.
If you get a mani and pedi once a month you'll be fine.

as far as the nails growing into your skin file where they grow in every so often, try to avoid filing that area otherwise.

  • Can you get your nails to grow faster?

Can you get your nails to grow faster? If so how?

Can you get your nails to grow faster?
I am a vigorous nail biter since i was 3, toes and fingers :S

But i have discovered somehting called almond oil, after like one application my nails are so much stronger, you just rub it on the cuticules and wellah! perfect

ask a pharmasist or a beauty shopCan you get your nails to grow faster?
The only real way to get your nails to grow faster is to take good care of them (like get manicures at least every two weeks) and get all the right vitamins. There are many products out there that claim to make nails grow faster but they do not actually work. The people that use them convince themselves that they are going to grow faster after using it, therefore they trick their mind in to believing that it works. Same concept of someone convincing themselves in their mind that they are sick or in pain when in reality it is all in their head and there is nothing wrong with them so you give them sugar pills and they are magically all better because they think it is meds.
You should take Calcium supplements, which you can find at your local thrift store, such as Target, Wal-Mart, etc. And be careful, biting your nails will not help either one bit. So DON'T! If you bite your nails, you should distract yourself by reading a book or something or sitting down on your hands when watching T.V., or even putting band-aids around each of your fingernails. Or you could buy that nasty nail polish that tastes disgusting if you bite them. Basically, just take the Calcium supplement and/or a multi-vitamin that has Calcium in it as well. And don't, whatsoever, bite your nails!
Take silica tablets. Silica is found in porridge and the outside lettuce leaves, but easier to take in tablet form. It promotes strong, healthy nails and hair. The only trouble is, it also makes toenails and leg/underarm/bikini line hair grow quickly too!!
I find that when I eat a hi protein diet my hair and nails grow fast

You nails and hair is made up from protien like the shells on shellfish

Did you know your nails and hair still grows for about 4-6 weeks after death ?

Calcium = bones, hmmm boney hair or bonehead
you can buy nail polish to make them grow faster...but a cheaper way to make them grow is to rub garlic on them. I recommend to do it at night.
Calcium makes nails grow stronger and longer
Cod Liver Oil! They help your nails grow stronger/longer, your hair lustrous, and your skin healthy.
Eat lots of cauliflower....it has biotin in it or take biotin tablets.
    Get more calcium
    Yes. Fish oil!
    GREEN TEA!!
its called Sally Hansen Nail growth nail polish babe. =]

If I have fake nails and go swimming will they turn yellow?

I have acrylic nails and have been swimming all weekend and noticed they are turning a bit yellow underneath. Does anybody know if this will continue or have some information on this? I know they do turn yellowish when I tan so maybe it's something along those lines.......If I have fake nails and go swimming will they turn yellow?
When you swim, the UV rays are amplified. You need to use a UV inhibiting top coat. The best one i have used is Tammy Taylor A coat. I also use z coat as it stops nails from turning from using a lot of product (i.e. lotion, sunscreen, etc.) I also use A coat on my french manicured toes. They NEVER chip even when I swim daily. I can stretch a pedi out for 3-4 weeks if i need to.If I have fake nails and go swimming will they turn yellow?
if you have been swimming you have probably been in the sun, it is the sun's rays that cause them to turn yellow, just like when you go tanning. You can buy nail polish that will coat the nails with sunscreen that will prevent this from happening. I do the same thing, and have had mine on for a few months without any discoloration
nope, i have them also and have never had a problem with them turning color.
it shouldnt turn yellow mine have never done that andi swim a lot. call your estitition and ask what the reason for that would be.
What are you swimming in? Champagne??

But seriously, yes fake nails do stain. You could try re-painting them.

Or cultivate your real nails - lots of vitamins and Sally Hanson nail products should do the trick.

Fake nails are brilliant for certain occasions but they can be such a pain!!
    no
not at all the stuff the use won't turn colors unless u get fungus under them, which happens after awhile with her nails becoming old
    yes
sometimes the chlorine will react with the glue in your nail kit... this can result in...

    flaking skin around your nails...

    rash...

nails falling of due to reaction...

personally, if you have long nails, i think it is a bit dangerous to swim in a crowded area... you might take someones eye out with em!
Your nails don't turn yellow, I know because I have acrylic nails, too.
I manage a tanning salon and it's most probably the UV not the pool so just visit your local tanning salon and purchase a UV protective top coat like sun-e and appy that over your manicure about once a week.

Have you tried PETICURE to trim your cat or dogs nails?

What do you like or dislke about the product? I am thinking of buying it.

http://www.peticure.com/Have you tried PETICURE to trim your cat or dogs nails?
I would HIGHLY recommend it. I have never used the Peticure brand, but I do dremmel my dog's nails using a Wal Mart brand cordless dremmel that is essentially the same but without the really great cover. It took only a little time to get my dog used to it and he likes it FAR better than the nail clipper.

Here is a great article on how to get your dog used to getting their nails dremmeled:

I highly recommend it. It is AMAZING! it works great. At first you may need to treat them get them use to the tool but after the first paw my dog loved it. Now every time I turn it on he comes running. Good Luck!

There's differing accounts of the Peticure. If you want to save cash, go to Harbour Freight and get their Dremel-like device. It's cheap, very small, no more or less noisy, just as effective and replacement sanding drums are uber-cheap and found everywhere.

No. I've seen that in catalogs. I use dog pliers to trim their nails.
never seen never tried but from the sounds of it it is just a rottery tool that has been revamped a little and given a doggy friendly name. go for something cheaper and forget the name.
I think it's weird. I just use the regular nail clippers they make for dog's nails and trim them with that... even my kitty's nails.
I have considered this myself but I don't think my dog would stand still for it. Sorry I can't be of any help.
it's interesting looking. their promo is beyond corny though (but then most ';as seen on TV'; things are)...the bit about getting it to keep your hardwood floors looking good, was stupid...if i cared that much about my hardwood floors i wouldn't have dogs! floors and furniture can be replaced, my pets cannot.

dunno, i think i might have to actually try one before i purchased one. a good place to check out if it really works for real people would be a review site. it's a website that consumers can write reviews about products.

Epinions.com is one ConsumerReports.org is another one.
No, the best thing is take the dog to a good groomer to keep the nails trimmed down..

or your vet will do it also, some of these places and techniques do not do the nails much good, and if not careful the veins in the nails can be cut and then you will have a bleeder on your hands.

    Breeder/show/handler 15 yrs
Never used it but it looks nice maybe I should get one for my dogs. I hate cliping their nails it is always painful for them.
I think it looks like the drummel tool I use to file my dogs nails. I've watched the video and it sounds like it might be worth a try. My dog hates to have his nails cut but he will let me file them with the drummel. If you dog doesn't like to have his nails cut with a dog nail clipper this might be worth a try. I love my drummel and my dog doesn't mind having his nails done with it.
i wouldn't do it who knows what they put in that stuff they put on your animal
